Optical Biology Core Shared Resource Facility

J. Lawrence Marsh, Ph.D.

The primary objectives of the Optical Biology Shared Resource Facility (OBC) are to:

  • Provide state-of-the-art instrumentation and expertise in optical methods to support basic science and clinical research projects
  • Disseminate novel technological information to all researchers
  • Foster the development and dissemination of new technology
  • Develop clinical diagnostics and therapeutics through the continuing partnership with the Beckman Laser Institute
  • Offer technical instruction, service and support
  • Interface with the Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics (LFD); the Beckman Laser Institute LAMMP; the Center for Complex Biosystems; the Stem Cell Research Center

  • Confocal microscopy
  • 2-photon microscopy
  • Lifetime imaging microscopy
  • TIRF microscopy
  • Single particle tracking
  • Image Correlation Spectroscopy (ICS)
  • Raster Image Correlation Spectroscopy (RICS)
  • Velocity mapping
  • Mapping of molecular aggregates from the N&B analysis
  • Fluorescence Liteime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM)
  • FRET via FLIM
  • Training and workshops to inform users of the capabilities and systems available
