Mission Statement

Building 23, Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center

As the NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center of the University of California, Irvine—and the only such center in Orange County—the overall mission of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center parallels that of our parent institution: To DISCOVER, TEACH, and HEAL within the broad discipline of cancer medicine. We strive to:

  • Facilitate and promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary basic, translational, patient-centered, and clinical cancer research across UC Irvine and its affiliates
  • Develop new knowledge about the causes, prevention, treatment, and survival of cancer that will change the standards of care nationwide and globally

  • Disseminate this new information to cancer practitioners, caregivers, patients and their families, and the general public, both within our community and nationally
  • Train the next generation of cancer researchers and care providers

  • Deliver the highest quality clinical care to cancer patients through multidisciplinary diagnostic, therapeutic, and prevention programs
  • Develop and sustain programs to determine and alleviate the burden of cancer within the community that we serve
